Whether you are hoping for rain or dreading the idea of it raining on your wedding day, this is one element of the planning process you cannot control but can certainly prepare for, to ensure you have the most enjoyable day despite what Mother Nature has in store!
Tips and suggestions if you are concerned:
Have a plan B wet weather contingency
All venues will be able to support you with this by recommending areas of the venue that can be used as a wet weather contingency such as indoor spaces, or in some cases, may involve an outdoor structure/cover if there are limited indoor areas. Having a provision in place like this may mean having to put a little extra money aside (dependent on situation) so is something that should also be factored into the wedding budget where applicable.
Wet Weather Equipment
If you are set on having an outdoor ceremony or reception and are determined to have this despite what the weather may bring, (and the Registrar/Venue allows for it), then it may be worth thinking about other equipment to help with the wet weather; this could include a handful of umbrellas (some venues may provide these so worth checking), towels or extra clothing/correct shoes – if you are going to be swanning down the aisle in muddy grounds for example, make sure you have a suitable pair of footwear to do this in!
Don’t Panic – Suppliers will accommodate!
Many suppliers, especially when it comes to photographers and videographers will be used to these situations and will help identify the best places for lighting/filming in the event of poor weather. You can also ask them to arrange a visit with the venue prior to the day, if they do not know the venue well, so that they can recognise all potential spaces and areas indoors, for example, that could be used should the worst case scenario happen. It is important to remember however that they are professionals and will therefore know how to accommodate in such situations whilst ensuring you get the best photographs and filming possible.
Embrace it!
Even if the weather is not how you envisioned your wedding day going ahead, don’t let it spoil your day! Just remember all the preparation and time that has gone into the day itself which will still go ahead as planned, allowing you to have a specular celebration with all your loved ones regardless of what the weather brings! And do not forget – at the end of the day, you will be finally marrying your partner, which is ultimately the whole point of the celebration! 😊
Whether you are planning to have a summer UK wedding or a fancy destination abroad, there is never any guarantee that the weather will be the way you want it to be (although we can certainly hope for it!) so this is one factor we, at Love Lydia Weddings & Events plan and prepare for as much as possible, by advising our couples of all options and provisions available to them early in the planning process, to ensure their dream wedding goes ahead seamlessly, regardless of what the weather brings!
